Why it works

The right pad for each step

  • Wool for scratches. 3M's most aggressive pad for P1200-and-finer scratches, runs cooler than foam.
  • Foam face pattern. More surface contact, holds compound and reduces slinging.
  • Waffle polishing faces. Even handling over curves without excess heat.
  • Quick Connect. Swap pads fast on a Quick Connect adapter.
Spur the wool daily. 3M says spurring the wool fibers each morning before first use restores the pad's performance.
How to use

Three-step finish

  1. Fit a 3M Quick Connect adapter to your rotary polisher (05752 for 5/8 in).
  2. Compound with the wool or white foam pad and EX Rubbing Compound at 1,200–2,000 rpm.
  3. Polish with the 05707 foam pad and EX Machine Polish.
  4. Finish with the blue 05708 pad and EX Ultrafine, leaving a light film, then wipe with a microfiber cloth.
