Why it works

Cut without the mess

  • Made for hard clears. 3M aims it at newer, harder-to-buff clearcoats as well as single-stage paint.
  • Longer work time. The wetter formula works in all conditions, including high heat and humidity.
  • Less sling. It holds on the pad for less mess, and wipes off easily.
  • Wool or foam. Use a wool pad for the fastest cut or a foam pad to reduce swirl comebacks.

Finished with Trizact 5000? Skip the wool. 3M's guide says that after refining with 5000-grade Trizact you can go straight to a foam compounding pad, which also cuts down swirl comebacks.
How to use

Application

  1. Refine sand scratches to P1200 or finer; 3M's path runs through Trizact 3000 or 5000.
  2. Apply enough compound to work a 2 ft × 2 ft area with a thin film for several passes before it dries.
  3. Buff with a rotary polisher at 1200–2000 rpm, starting with medium pressure and easing off as the compound dries.
  4. Wipe residue with a Perfect-It detailing cloth.
  5. Move on to EX Machine Polish (step 2) and EX Ultrafine (step 3).

3M specifies a rotary polisher at 1200–2000 rpm. For a random orbital polisher, 3M makes the separate Perfect-It Random Orbital Compound.
