Snug the packing nut before you spray. DeVilbiss ships the packing nut loose on purpose. Tighten it until the needle binds, then back it off until the needle moves freely. Skip this and the gun can leak at the needle.
How to set it up
- Flush solvent through the gun before first use.
- Set the packing nut as above.
- Use an air hose of at least 5/16 in inside diameter.
- Set 30 psi at the gun inlet with the trigger pulled. That gives the HVLP 10 psi at the cap.
- Spray from 6–8 in. Never fully immerse the gun in solvent, and lubricate it daily.

What's each gun for?
DeVilbiss recommends the 1.3 mm tip for topcoats (base and clear) and the 1.8 mm tip for primers.
How big a compressor do I need?
Each gun uses 13 cfm at 30 psi. Size your compressor for that delivered air, with headroom.
Can I spray primer sealer?
DeVilbiss recommends a 1.5 mm tip (803015) for topcoats and primer sealers. It's sold separately.
