The yellow masking tape most collision shops run every day. 3M's treated crepe-paper backing follows curves, resists solvent and moisture, and holds up to 250°F for 30 minutes in the booth. It comes off without adhesive residue. Sold by the full case in four widths.

Need less than a case? Get it by the single roll or sleeve: 18 mm, 24 mm, 36 mm or 48 mm.

Why it works

Everyday masking that holds its line

  • Conformable crepe. A thin, semi-smooth yellow crepe backing follows contours and minimizes paint bleed-through.
  • Solvent and moisture resistant. 3M treats the backing for refinish conditions.
  • Clean removal. 3M says it comes off fast without adhesive residue, and it runs on apron taper machines too.

Part Width Rolls per case

06653 24 mm (about 1 in) 36
06654 36 mm (about 1-1/2 in) 24
06656 48 mm (about 2 in) 24
Break it on curves. 3M's tip: run long strips on flat areas, but tear and restart the tape often around curves like wheel arches. Stretching one strip around a curve is how edges lift. Clean rubber gaskets and moldings with solvent first so release agents don't stop it sticking.
How to use

Application

  1. Apply between 60°F and 90°F to a clean, dry surface. Solvent-clean rubber gaskets and moldings first.
  2. Run long strips on flat panels. Break the tape often on curves.
  3. Bake at up to 250°F (121°C) for no more than 30 minutes.
  4. Pull the tape back over itself at about 45°. On delicate or weathered paint, pull as close to 180° as you can.
  5. Use it indoors. 3M notes that sun and heat exposure make the tape harder to remove.

Quick answers

FAQ

Can it go through a bake cycle?

Yes. 3M rates 388N to 250°F (121°C) for up to 30 minutes.

How many rolls are in a case?

48 rolls of 18 mm, 36 of 24 mm, or 24 of either 36 mm or 48 mm. Every roll is 60 yd (55 m).

Can I buy less than a case?

Yes. Single rolls and sleeves (12 of 18 mm, 9 of 24 mm, 6 of 36 mm or 48 mm) are on their own pages, linked at the top.

Will it leave residue?

3M designs it for clean removal without adhesive residue. Keep it indoors and within the bake rating; 3M says sun and heat make any masking tape harder to remove.

How long does it keep?

18 months in the unopened carton at 70°F and 50% relative humidity.
