Why it works

A focused solvent-system gun

  • Made for solvent materials. SATA says its easy-to-clean, durable surface fits all solvent-based materials.
  • Wide pressure range. 0.5–2.4 bar (7–35 psi), recommended at 1.8 bar (26 psi).
  • Light. 484 g (17.1 oz) with a 0.6 L RPS cup, lighter than the X 5500.
  • Three cups. SATA includes one RPS multi-purpose cup each in 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 L.
Uses

What it's for, and what it isn't

  • Yes: solvent basecoat, sealer and clearcoat.
  • Primer or filler: SATA doesn't list it. Use a SATAjet 100 B F instead.
  • Waterborne base: SATA positions this gun for solvent systems. The X 5500 is SATA's listed choice for both waterborne and solvent systems.
Don't copy your X 5500 settings. SATA rates the 1500 B at 1.8 bar (26 psi) inlet, not the 2.0 bar (29 psi) used by the X 5500 and 5000 B. The HVLP version also draws 12.4 cfm, not 15.2.
Setup

How to set it up

  1. Run an antistatic, solvent-resistant hose with at least a 9 mm (about 3/8 in) inside diameter, and filter your air. SATA specifies both in the manual.
  2. Fill the cup no higher than 20 mm (about 3/4 in) below the rim and lock it onto the QCC connection.
  3. Open the material flow control and the air micrometer fully. Then pull the trigger all the way and set 1.8 bar (26 psi) at the gun inlet.
  4. Spray from 17–21 cm (6.7–8.3 in) with RP, or 10–15 cm (3.9–5.9 in) with HVLP. Pull the trigger fully on every pass.
  5. Clean it nozzle-down with a neutral cleaner (pH 6–8), keeping air flowing through the gun. Never soak it and never use an ultrasonic cleaner. Blow it dry when you're done.

Is the 1500 B SoLV a primer gun?

No. SATA lists it for solvent basecoat, sealing and clear coats. For primer and filler, the SATAjet 100 B is SATA's preparation gun.

RP or HVLP?

RP is the faster, lower-air option at 10.2 cfm. HVLP uses 12.4 cfm and a closer distance for higher transfer efficiency. Both use the same 26 psi inlet.

How is it different from the X 5500?

The X 5500 adds SATA's I and O nozzle choices, sizes from 1.2 to 1.4 mm on our shelf, an optional digital gauge, and a waterborne listing. The 1500 B is a focused solvent gun in 1.3 or 1.4 mm.

What comes with it?

SATA lists the gun with three RPS multi-purpose cups, one each in 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9 L.

Is there a warranty?

SATA offers a free extension to 3 years on spray guns through its Premium Warranty, which you activate online with the gun's serial number. It covers material and manufacturing defects. Wear parts and electronic components are excluded.
