Built for the Stabond workflow
- Thinning. Stabond's data sheets call for T-Thinner to adjust T-440C and E-183, and this is it. Add small amounts until the adhesive atomizes cleanly through your gun.
- Gun and pot flush. Contact adhesive sets up in lines and tips. Run toluene through the gun, hose and pot at the end of the day.
- Uncured cleanup. A solvent wipe removes wet or uncured adhesive from tools and overspray. Once cured, it has to come off mechanically.
- General solvent. A strong aromatic solvent for cutting adhesive residue, rubber and oils on metal parts.
Thinning and cleanup
- Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, away from sparks and open flame. Toluene vapor is heavier than air and collects low.
- To thin: add toluene to the adhesive a little at a time and mix well. Test-spray until you get an even splatter pattern; don't over-thin.
- To flush: empty the pot, add a small amount of toluene, and spray it through the gun and hose until it runs clear.
- To clean up: wipe uncured adhesive with a toluene-dampened rag. Let rags dry flat outdoors before disposal, and follow local rules for solvent waste.

Is this the same as Stabond T-Thinner?
Yes. Stabond's T-Thinner is toluene. That's why we stock it next to the Stabond adhesives.
How much should I thin?
As little as possible. Add small amounts, mix and test-spray until the adhesive atomizes evenly. Over-thinning reduces film build and bond strength.
Can I use it to clean a panel before paint?
No. It can soften paint and leaves the surface wrong for refinish. Use a wax and grease remover for paint prep.
Will it dissolve cured adhesive?
Not reliably. Toluene removes wet or uncured adhesive; cured contact adhesive usually has to be scraped or sanded off.
What gloves should I wear?
Standard thin nitrile gloves only give short splash protection against toluene. For soaking or extended contact, use gloves rated for aromatic solvents, and always wear eye protection.
